Yes you can. The lady who sits next to me in community band has asthma. Her doctor has told her that playing her clarinet will actually help her. It strengthens the lungs and helps keep them a little clearer. Of course she does have to follow her doctor's instructions.

She also had a university clarinet instructor help her select a good quality, easy blowing mouthpiece so that the resistance of the horn and mouthpiece combo wouldn't be too great for her.
