i'd have to second that last opinion..my second oboe is a 30 year old professional model Loree that has been appraised at roughly $2500 ($1000 discount due to nicely repaired cracks)...compared to my $6000 new one it suffers from somewhat poorer pitch stability and of course is aged. However, it still has a beautiful sound and is a wonderful instrument...objectively, the new instrument is more than twice as valuable for its, say, 15% incremental improvement (very subjectively). That's known in economics as decreasing returns. OK, I want and need that 15% at times; however, for a student I'd say the $2500 would be a bargain relative to any student model instrument out there.
