Hi all,
I am a bit stressed since my best reed has decided to close at the tip (most likely from age), so I am trying to fix one of my newer reeds. The darkness of the tone is perfect, and so is the response, but there is one HUGE problem...as soon as I play above an A-flat, I hear a "reedy" sound, along with the tone. It sounds like there is stray water in my reed - almost a "sctrachy" sound. It isnt as noticable if I play ff, but at mf or below, it is awful! This problem continues on into the upper register, but it dimishes slightly above a high-F.
Basically, my middle register has this strange added "noise" (distortion) to the tone. Is there any way to solve this problem? I thought I would ask here for advice before scraping any more...
Thanks!
JCH
