What do you all think about playing tutti sections in baroque concertos? I have heard arguments both ways, but of course the tuttis are usually written in the solo part. I know the baroque oboe was much less resistant to play than a modern oboe (or so I have heard!), so maybe it was just easy to play it all. Do violinists typically play all the tutti sections when they solo (eg Vivaldi Seasons?) Or are those written out tuttis like cues for the soloist?
I think the solo instrument sounds more "soloy" if they come in only on the solo sections; but what is the general consensus? This question is relevant for many baroque concertos, but the one I'm currently working on is the Bach Double (just for reference).
