I have tried using this key but it just doesn't sound as good as just using the 4th hole for notes such as Bb or A# in Chalumeau register, F in Clarion and Db or C# in the Altissimo register. IS it better do just use the fingering without the key?

Hello,
It sounds like you're experimenting with different fingerings to achieve the best sound quality. The choice between using the key and just the 4th hole fingering can depend on various factors, including the intonation, tone quality, and ease of play. Here are a few considerations:
Intonation: Sometimes, certain fingerings might help better with tuning specific notes. If you find that the 4th hole fingering provides more accurate intonation for the notes you mentioned, it might be a good choice for those particular passages.
Tone Quality: Different fingerings can produce varying tone qualities. If you prefer the tone produced by using just the 4th hole, then it could be the preferred option for your playing style and the piece you're performing.
Ease of Play: Consider the context of the piece and the ease of transitioning between notes. If using the 4th hole fingering simplifies your finger movements and makes playing more comfortable, it might be advantageous to stick with it.
Personal Preference: Ultimately, the best choice is the one that feels and sounds best to you. Musicians often develop personal preferences based on their experiences and the specific requirements of the music they're playing.
Best regards,
Roxanne
