Was wondering if anyone has done this one yet. It's billed as a Musical Comedy Whodunit. It starred David Hyde Smith and was only recently on Broadway. I play in our community orchestra. The last two musicals we did had just two reeds, but the other reed is flute/piccolo only. I can't be sure they'll hire a third. Any thoughts on this?

Well, according to Bret Pimentel's site:

Curtains

1: Piccolo, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone

2: Oboe, English horn, clarinet, tenor saxophone

3: Clarinet, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone

4: Flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, baritone saxophone

I guess if they won't hire a 3rd, then a 4th is completely out of the question.

You know what will happen, right?

The MD will have two of you play the reed 1 and 2 books, then keep complaining about missing solo lines, which you will then rush to try and cover from the other books. No fun.

We're scheduled to do this next July - if anyone can give info on how much flute is in book 4, I'd appreciate it. Im trying to decide if it's worth brushing up extremely meger flute skills or transposing the part or swapping with someone else for the flute sections.

Thanks!

I played Curtains earlier this year. I don't think the person covering the flute in book 4 was especially busy, but I think all he was doing was playing that and sometimes a little alto sax. I thought it was a funny show and don't remember any of the reed music being especially difficult.
