I heard about another scam from Germany about someone trying to sell a Violetwood Loree Royal. This happened a few months ago - June I think. The scam artist lifted pics of an oboe from one of the oboe retailers, and listed it on eBay. What a nerve!
I have bought two instruments via eBay, and had no problems, but I likely will not do so in future.
Oboes, especially the good ones, are excellent scam material since they are small and quite expensive. My friend recently recovered some of his stolen instruments that were also being offered on eBay. It bothered me a great deal that the eBay people were apparenty very reluctant to get involved, although I understand that they eventually assisted in a very small way after considerable legal pressure was exerted.
So, the word on eBay purchases is: BEWARE!!
