there actually were some single-reed mouthpieces made to fit into the reedwells of oboes; they were to allow single-reed players the ability to play oboe without the double-reed issues. I saw one for sale on Ebay a year or so ago. If you are an IDRS member, check the archives to see if there's any info there, or do a Google search on the manufacturer.

hehe... I just followed my own advice and found "Chedeville"... I bet that's what you have!
