I agree - it is actually easier to play forked F in many occasions:
-d minor arpeggio
-Bb major arpeggio
-C-F-A in the low register
I usually only use Left-F in situations where D E and F are repeated in quick succession, in a variety of combinations.
Why make life harder? It's much harder to control the pinky of the left hand and the ring finger of the right hand, than it is to just lift the middle finger (no pun intended)
The intonation of forked F is only bad when the oboe itself is of poor quality, or if the key is out of adjustment.
