I swear by the left F!! I will use other alternate fingerings just to avoid using forked f. For example in the Tchaikovsky's 4th 2nd movement solo I often switch from right Eb to left Eb just so I can use left F. for example in the first sequence Re Do Se La Se Fa Fa Do Me Re Do La Se Do Do Fa, Fa Sol La Se Do Re Fa (I use left F Here) Me (this is where I play a 16th note of the E flat on the right and in another 16th note switch to my Eb on the left so I can take the Db on the right) Re Do Se La Fa Se Sol La...
So I would encourage using left F in ALL circumstances that regular F doesn't work!!!
