Hi Everyone...
Anyone ever heard the 'Canzonettta for Oboe and String Orchestra' (orch. Charles Turner). An absolutely amazing 8 or so minute slow movement! Originally planned as a comissioned oboe concerto by the NY Phil in 1978 (unfortunately Barber's doctor told him he had cancer and this was the last piece he wrote it seems).
I heard it for the first time this morning on a CD of Humbert Lucarelli. It is simply sublime-moments of his more well known Adagio and 2nd movement solo form the violin concerto sprang to mind. I spent most of the morning stunned thinking "what if he'd have even sketched another 2 movements- it would have been a very substantial concerto- well worth hearing, in any case I urge all to try and hear this piece...

PS. The recording isn't too bad either!! also has the strauss, wolf-ferrari and vaughan williams concerti.
