Interesting and very evocative descriptions of your technique!
Reversing the reed while scraping behind the heart is something I've never done, and this makes a lot of sense to me as you state it.
Dusting the heart too. I do this with very slight amounts of cane removed, as well as top center of heart.
It really is amazing how much difference this slight adjustment makes as the reed approaches completion.
Let me ask, how would you describe the shape of the heart?
I've seen some that look like houses (mine), some that look like diamonds, and some that look like ovals in the general area of where my hearts happen.
