Okay fellow oboists, I have another question for you.
As far as the heart goes, I feel like I have to scrape an awful lot out of the heart in order to get the full reed vibrating. I did recently bump my gouge up to .6 (gave or take .02), and I know that I am getting the tip to vibrate, but the vibrations just are not making it into the back of the reed. Is there any other way to leave more wood in the heart, or am I just being paranoid?
P.S. I am a stability junkie, and like to know that when I play a high C, it is going to be a high C, and not super flat. I am worried that scrapely more out of the heart, even on a thicker gouge than I was using, might have some adverse affects.
