Walter,
I'm about to venture into the EH reed making thing myself, having recently purchased an EH...the Weber/Capps manual has a section extending/modifying the oboe reed lessons into EH reeds, plus relative dimensions (though no tie length)...the video is also good in that Mr. Capps makes an EH reed from scratch through playability...it looks a lot easier to me than making a good oboe reed, but I'll find out! I think the fatter reed and less need to define the heart and windows plus the thicker tip will all make the EH reed much more foregiving...this is confirmed to me by the fact that I started by buying four EH handmade reeds in addition to some pre-shaped cane, an EH mandrel and some wire just to get started. The EH reeds are all different, but I can play pretty well on all of them and one of them has a crack in the tip and still plays pretty well (though it buzzes a bit on the low notes)!
