davidsbundler, I am a sophomore in high school and they just let my walk in and try out instruments. Or course, I phoned ahead to make sure it was alright. I was really surprised how friendly they are. I just wished I could have tried on of their english horns. When i tried out the oboes I was playing on a reed that i would consider 'unsatasfactory' and I played scales, random notes, chromatic, and some excerpts (mainly Scherherzade). When i tried the cocobolo i played bits of baroque peices, i had a hard time becuase it's hard for me to memorize music, i brought along with my reeds a copy of the Vade Macum or the Oboist.
