Well I'd say the entire tip reed still needs to be quite thin, the extremes of the tip and in the back corners of the tip as well (moving into the blend)
What you don't want to do is thin the center of the tip too much. This is what causes the really bright tone, and sagging/instability. If you have problems right now with the overly bright tone, keep a nice chuck of wood down the center of the reed,and partially into the tip... and when you feel confident that when you remove this it allow the reed to play better, then do so.
