Your best way with dealing with calcium build-up is to use kettle descaler (formic acid) or any acid to dissolve the calcium.

The other way to clear out the vents is use a 0.7mm twist drill held between your fingers, and run this through the vent hole twisting it as you go through.

I've worked on 80+ year old Lorees which still have the original ones in, and with a clean-up they're as good as new.

Though there are some companies offering gold plated ones and also ceramic ones. I reckon Delrin ones should work a treat - don't know if they're being made, but there are several mouthpiece makers (brass instruments) that make Delrin rims for players that do a lot of outside playing in winter, so the player's lips are insulated from the metal.
