Clarence:
A couple of years ago I did put away some un-dead reeds because I didn't think they sounded good. Going back to them this winter when nothing in my "good" box was working, I found that some of them were actually pretty good reeds. I do suspect that it is a matter of my embouchure having grown into them over the past year or three.
There are just so many different "flavors" of (good) reeds out there. Some are really resistant. Some are free. Some work best played on the tip with a very light lip, some require more lip and playing "further down." In fits and starts, I like each kind.
