Tilting the reed slightly in reed well

Any of you experts out there play with your reed tilted slightly in the reed well? I normally have mine perfectly "flat" so to speak, but during yesterday's practice I had it slightly tilted to the right, later to the left for symmetry and/or wear. It enhanced my sound tremendously with this approach as it seemed I put less pressure on the tops and bottoms of the reed.

Is this a bad habit? Standard? Acceptable?

Would love to hear your comments. Thanks in advance for your input.

Jay
