The Met orchestra is certainly a full-time job and it is a spectacular orchestra. My predecessor - John Ferrillo - played there for 16 years and has made some truly phenomenal recordings (Aida, Figaro, Beethoven 3, Don Quixote, just to name a few). However, after playing the operatic repertoire for a number of years, Ferrillo, Genovese, and I felt that it would be more artistically rewarding to make music in a great symphony orchestra, rather than in a great opera orchestra.
