Two oboists left the Met opera orchestra to become principal oboe of the Boston Symphony-John Ferrillo most recently and Alfred Genovese before him. Eugene Izotov left the position of associate principal in the orchestra to become principal of Chicago. Even though the Met is an amazing orchestra many players have left the pit for orchestral jobs. I think Elaine Douvas has held the position of principal oboist longer than most.
