Well said!
Focus on air and air alone as the focal point, with it leading the direction of the phrase. And presto, comes the legato naturally! You want to play so beautifully that unintentionally you are doing this sort of swell on every note, now i don't think that might be your case, but usually weak use of air flow and bad legato would result to that. Hope this helps.
