My favorite swab is from Forrests in Berkeley, CA. Go here

and look down the page under "Pull Through Silk Swabs". I have the one with the tail. This has NEVER gotten stuck. It is long enough to go all the way through the instrument and still hang out on either end, so even if you got a knot in the string that you didn't notice, you could easily extract it back out. I honestly don't know why all oboe swabs aren't made like these.
