We decided to buy a better oboe for our daughter. She is 14 years old and has been playing for about 3 years and plans to play in high school also.
We have been renting a beginner level plastic model. After talking to her band instructor we decided to purchase a Fox 400 for her and placed an order for one with the store we have been renting from since we get a discount because we have been a rental customer. We just got a call from the store and were told that Fox has moved the estimated ship date from late August to January for the model 400. The store also told us they just got a model 450 in and will sell us that for about $100 less than the model 400.
I would appreciate any opinions on the 450 vs. the 400. With the 450 being a plastic/wood hybrid, will it be a better choice since she will be taking the oboe back and forth to school on a bus quite regularly? Is there much difference in the sound between the two models? I would hate to buy the 450 and then find out some day that the 400 sounds much better. Also, is there a different oboe make/model you would recommend instead of the Fox 400 or 450?
Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks!
