 playing in hot weather

Well, I just had a new hideous experience - trying to play the oboe in hot weather. Our wind ensemble just had a two hour practice and I've never struggled so hard to play so badly.

A warm oboe was a new problem. I also had a lot of trouble with the reeds (I don't even know enough to describe this problem!). So, for two hours, I tried in vain to play in tune up and down the scale. Yikes!

Is this a common problem - keeping the horn in tune on hot days? Now, I'm dreading the upcoming summer concerts. Since I started playing last year I haven't had any warm concerts yet. Oh misery, misery....and I had just started to learn how to deal with a cold oboe!
