Hello
I try to incorporate several fun things into every practice session. I will present several different situations that I use.
1) This is my favorite!!! I try to practice in several shorter segments daily if possible. This is good as it allows you to rest your lips and gives you time to recenter you mind to focus whenever you return to the oboe. I try to do one or two necessary, not-so-fun technique or tone building excersizes, and then end the session with something fun (for me an orchestral excerpt, solo, or slow etude). This way I start the important stuff while my mind is fresh and concentrating 100%, and end the practice session with something fun that will make me want to return later and work some more!!!
2) 1 long practice session with short, say 5 minute, breaks (again to refocus one's attention to all things oboe). Working one or two important concepts and ending with something fun.
This is what I use on multiple instruments, and I DEFINITELY enjoy practicing.
Hope this Helps and Best Of Luck!!!
Clayton
