And hello from another Asian mate here!
Yes like what wkleung said, try to also sought out for the other brands. Other than Loree, Marigaux, Rigoutat, Howarth, also look out for the
top line Bulgheronis and the top line Buffets. Your local stores probably sell them, but you would have to make a special request to order them. Have you tried Tong Lee?
I once had an oboe teacher from Hong Kong who recided in Malaysia for quite a while until she went back and i have lost her contact ever since. I am interested in knowing who your teacher is. =)
That is a very very high rate, but bear in mind that oboe teachers in Singapore can charge up to S$100 (RM230=HK$460) for a one hour lesson. In Malaysia prices are MUCH MUCH lower.
As for ABRSM, good luck! I have a few of their exams (10? Nah~~haha...) and find them very manageable as long as sufficient preparation has been made, do take not of that and don't rush in for exams, a carreer in oboe playing means you have to a musician at the same time, not just an oboe player! I am sure you are aware of that! Again good luck and all the best!
Howard
