hey noahbob
... no question is stupid if you need to know but don't know where to start, don't know who to ask, gotta start by asking somewhere, and you dared to ask! so keep asking around until you have all the answers you need
...haven't been the route you want to go, so can only give general suggestions i hope will help a bit
... you've already researched syllabus (school calendar or course catalog) for each post-secondary Univ or college of interest to identify general entrance requirements, and music specific entrance requirements?
If not, many of the answers you seek can be found in the details of entrance requirements. Also, by researching the details of study programs, required and elective courses, and the pre-requisites for all first year courses at each institution, you will discover what you need to know to get started, be able to compare school programs, and identify common ground
You can research these online, or perhaps there are reference catalogs at your school's career-post-secondary information centre, or school library, or ask your school counsellor for help or clarification
You need to know opening dates and closing deadline dates (mark your own agenda ASAP & do it this year for next year) so you can get any necessary prep work done as early as possible between now and grade 12
A good thing to do, by first researching faculty lists at each institution, is find out who the oboe teachers are there, and shop around the institutions looking for the best bio's
Plan ahead, find out when they do open house or campus tour for prospective students. Ask if they have a shadow or buddy for a day program with oboe student there to meet profs in person and learn tips
Good luck
