I have never heard of this happening, but it sounds to me as if this reaction to your tongue is an allergic reaction. Perhaps there are salicylates in the cane ( after all they are derived from plant sources. I would suggest seeking the advice of a good health professional. Perhaps there may be some sort of sensitivity treatment that can be applied to alleviate this problem otherwise I can only see the plastic reed route as a solution..
