I've been to an ear specialist and have been tested for hearing and the results are that I have normally good hearing. However the specialist has suggested that the problem I have as I mentioned above may be some form of Hyperacrusis of which there is no cure. I have been experimenting with various kinds of ear plugs and the type that seems to reduce the intrusiveness of certain notes is the soft foam industrial ear plugs. I have inserted one of them completely into the ear channel of my right ear when I"m playing the Oboe and it seems to reduce the intrusive effect somewhat. It's the right ear that is most affected.
