I contacted an eBay seller of these Oboe-Shaped Objects about the extortionate price (£1259) and this is their response that makes no sense to me - seems like they copied it from a badly translated catalogue:
"Hi,
our best cash price paypal price on this is £1080
but it sounds like you are simply curious, one of the odyssey Saxophones is £2100
China can make pretty much anything we ask them to, they have a space programme. but experience counts also so some of the parts are made in Europe.
Designed for superior response and accurate intonation, Odyssey clarinets, oboes and piccolos are produced using carefully
chosen and worked materials to enhance the fundamental sound of the instrument.
Using premium European pads and springs for a positive action, high quality mouthpieces and reeds ensure that the expectations
of teachers and experienced players are fulfilled.
Great for beginners and highly recommended for
advancing students, the Odyssey Premiere OBE1200 C
Junior Oboe is a simplified conservatoire
model with an ABS wood composite body, silver-plated
keywork, high quality pads and steel rods and
screws. Supplied with a Vandoren double reed, the
Odyssey Premiere oboe has a defined and well articulated
tone,
Best Regards"
I wonder who is 'highly recommending' them?
All the major oboe makers are pointing and laughing!
