Dear fellow oboists, oboe lovers or just wise beings -
I picked up the oboe at age 11, played fearlessly 'till age 19, quit, and now 3 years later, 9 months ago, I started again without any considerable difficulties. In fact, it even seems easier now than then, just one thing *really* bugs me: I play pretty much anything, Poulenc, CPE Bach sonata, Mozart, Ferling, even Strauss without tears, but once I pick up J.S. Bach's concerto for oboe d'amore which I (try to) play on regular oboe, I pretty much collapse within the first 8 bars. The VERY strange thing is that when I began learning this masterpiece, reading the music, I had no such problem, I learned it soon by heart, no prob, now - 2-3 months later, I can't play it. I realize it's VERY long frazes, but I tire out so soon, suddenly.. ?!
Anyone got an idea what is going on and maybe how to solve it?
Reeds are fine, oboe great.
