Haha...how about the nightmare Mozart Concert in C? Certainly no problem in finding all around.
Incidentally i have a CD of Sarah Francis on the Helios label which contains the 2 Krommer Concertos and the Mozart Concerto. Very recommendable if you want to listen to some authentic English oboe playing.
Anyways, i can see that you are quite an oboe recording expert. I know Anthony Camden recorded the Corelli (arr.Babirolli) Concerto with Naxos, but are there other versions of this beautiful yet simple concerto?
If you can find Paul Goodwin's version of the Vivaldi Concertos on baroque oboe you must listen to it! It's superb! I agree with you on the 2nd hand shop, sometimes you really have to dig, once last year when i went to Hong Kong for vacaion, i had a chance to stroll in a 2nd hand cd shop when i found the unexpected, a Decca release of the Strauss Alpine Symphony conducted by Herbert Bloomstedt with the San Francisco Symphony. The solos inside are amazing, and as most people in this board would tell you, i ain't really a big fan of American playing, but this is something that you should get!
If you haven't heard the Calefax reed quintet before, you really should. They are a chamber ensemble consisting of 5 reed instruments and their arrangements are original and interesting. Plus the oboist is one of the best i have heard. The Debussy Ravel album (DG Scene) is a must get for one of the best Le Tombeau De Couperins ever.
How about French players? I never really had exposure. I have John De Lancie's legendary recording with Andre Previn conducting the London Symphony (RCA Red Seal), playing mostly French music by Francaix, Ibert, Satie, and Strauss. (not that he is French, but this is also a very recommendable recording.)
The 'easy to get' recordings i assume are in your area. Haha...all of you are such a lucky bunch.... Hope someday i will be able to get all these.
