We have three instruments stands at our house.
The one that I use the most is the following four-legged K&M model:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/450399/
The peg part of it is conical. It fits clarinet or oboe. The conical plastic peg screws onto the metal-legged base; when unscrewed, the legs fold up and screw into the conical peg for transport. It will fit inside the bell of a clarinet, but your case has to be big enough to allow for it. It doesn't fit inside the oboe. I generally have had to carry it in my gig bag. But it is my personal favorite.
In our music room we use the following:

This is very lightweight, and doesn't *seem* all that stable, but, like buildings in San Francisco, it will sway rather than collapse when jostled. It doesn't fold up (at least, ours won't), and thus is not as useful for carrying out to gigs. Fits clarinet, oboe, and flute.
We also have one of these:

This is the most compact of the stands. It is three-legged. The legs retract into the cone of the peg, so it is one piece. I don't think it is as stable as my screw-bottom K&M, but my husband likes it.
