You can do a low B-C# trill on any instrument fitted with an articulated C# (which S20c, S40c and S45c instruments will have fitted as standard) by holding the C# key down and trilling with the low B provided your cor is in adjustment so the low B key closes the C# key. Only the S10 and S20 (both pure thumbplate) instruments lack the articulated C#, but all conservatoire and dual system Howarth instruments will have it fitted.
A B-C link is definitely useful in Karl Jenkins' 'The Armed Man' where there's a fast Eb to low B slur in the cor solo (Eb-D-C-B-C-D--Eb B---) - it's risky without and can be done by sliding off the RH Eb onto the low C key while the LH low B key is kept closed, so long as you can slide your RH pinky easily.
The most recent Marigaux cors (930 etc.) have a low B-C link fitted as standard. On Howarth cors it's only fitted if requested at time of order on a new pro cor (S5 or XL), but it can be fitted to any existing instrument.
