While I'm having trouble understanding much of your descriptions, I will try to help. Although Mr.William's response is a bit brusque, he does have a point; currently, it appears that many players are using regular razor blades and/or box cutters for shaping cane. Although that's new to me, it may well be for the better. Decades ago, I used a smaller, wedged knife for shaping cane and I notice now, that my E.H shaper tip has "chatter" marks on it, implying that maybe that kind of knife is too strong for shaping cane. Now, i'm using a box-cutting knife ($5.50 at a hdwr. store) with 3 replaceable blades. I do the initial "slicing" with this knife and then the final slicing with an "Industrial", stiff-backed razor blade and I think this works quite well and is much easier on the sides of the shaper tip. So, I think this new way is a better way. Let's see what others say now. Regards.
