I've never used the powder papers (I know Yamaha makes them) and I would be concerned about buildup as well as anything that gets into the mechanism.
But I use the BG pad cleaners. A lot. They are much better than cigarette papers as they don't break up, are reusable and seem to be extremely absorbent. I even used one to remedy a sticky 1st octave key (I left it under the key after each play and over a period of a semester it seemed to fix it). Since they are microfibre, I can't see a problem using them regularly.
For persistent sticky keys, a repairman once told me to put a drop of key oil on a cigarette paper and slide it under the pad. I don't know what it does to pads long term, but for cork pads, it seems to work well. I guess the oil repels the water and lubricates anything else that might be sticky. If you're in a pinch, it does the job.
