I have a Chiarugi (are these the same as Chudnow?) E and S staple and while I do enjoy the "trumpety" sound I get for some situations, I have never been able to make a performance-worthy reed out of them. That might be just my skill, however. I'm finding it hard to tie-on and I usually get leaks. What shape and tie-on length are you using? I've experimented with many shapes and tie on all my reeds at 73 mm. Compared to the slew of other 47 mm corked staples I have, I'm not sure why I've had the most trouble with the metal staples. The opening looks to be quite large on the Chiarugis. Could that be it? I'm at the point where I'm trying to be consistent with the staples that I use, although I'm still tempted by the allure of these metal staples that I'm still always attempting to make reeds with them despite the failures I've had with them.
Recently bought some Chudnow A EH staples and I'm definitely going to try sticking with those if possible. Brilliant idea. The rubber tubing on traditional staples drives me batty.
