For anyone else that would have to google as I did, Neophyte is a beginner.
I guess just to comment for the sake of it, I'd say the two instruments are completely different, almost to the point that it's surprising they'd be in the same section. They are both beautiful, and I enjoy playing both. I think oboe is so much more difficult to learn: Reed making, conical bore, slower finger mechanism, it can get quite honky in tone (I kinda think this performer is). The clarinet has a longer range, premade reeds, backpressure from the cylinrical bore, blends more easily in tone, and has a faster key structure.
As for performance critique, and I realize they are still learning, the soloists (especially the oboist) are way ahead of the ensemble. I think the clarinetist does well to follow whom he needs to at the right times, but is still pulled ahead by the oboe player.
The fast phrases toward the end are exciting and very enjoyable.
