Robin,
You and I are both serious oboe lovers. And that distinction Vs. a music lover is for many a lost point. Oboists know the difference, but if the day comes we cannot play oboe, the music is there as a safety net. It will prove an adequate cushion I am sure.
And I expect we will still listen to more oboe music in total than the rest of it, but, just saying , its all good.
I am with you on the self-teaching. It is all about honest, deep, critical and constructive listening.
I am making good progress in a few areas these days on oboe and flute using those techniques. Always more to learn and much to improve... life is good.
Play on,
-Craig
