Well, I know my complaints are moderate compared to some of you here: though my problems are quite disruptive at times, they don't cancel my ability to play. I just hope that my chronicle will encourage the rest of you!
Craig, you used the word "neuropathy", that is essentially the main problem I have..... it is caused by osteo/muscular conditions, but the pains are neuropathic. If you were able to find a physiotherapist who knows Gunn-IMS (the non-electric kind), perhaps there might be a good measure of relief for you. I know you are an avid cyclist: ME TOO! But if I ever have to choose between the 2, it's the oboe I will take.
For me, music (oboe especially) is simply what I AM, take that away, and I'm essentially dead. And so I was for 10 years during engineering school..... my present day tenacity is therefore little more than catch-up!
I also want this chronicle to encourage amateurs. "Amateur" is relative: I was trained up to a half-decent pro. level, so I can re-teach myself (lessons from a real pro would still prove very beneficial). But anyone who can listen to her/himself and adjust the playing accordingly can do what I do or even better.
.... and, Craig, you definitely play far better than I do!!!!!
