Not much. Unless you are already a woodwind player. Are you?

Get a reed that is easy to blow.

Get someone to show you how to make an embouchure.

Keep your lips relaxed.

Keep your fingers curved and relaxed.

Let the weight of the oboe rest on your thumb (don't grip it)

Go slowly. One note at a time.

Learn to stop and start the tone with your tongue.

Play Christmas carols.

Good luck. The oboe takes time.
