Make reeds ..................
But have a realistic time frame for becoming proficient.
Reed making is a journey. You must have the motivation for the trip.
You will need many years of practice ..............much trial and error ............ the books are just the foundation.
You also will learn about cane, shaper tips, staples, etc .... all which impact upon reed outcomes. And there will be costs associated with buying the necessary equipment ....
The result are personalized reeds for you .... and you do not have to settle and work with a reed that just isn't quite right for your oboe, repertoire, and style.
Are you a craftsman? You do like challenges? Do yo have the time? Do you have a curious disposition? Can you handle frustration well!?
If yes ................ go for it.
You won't regret it.
