These are all really interesting! What I meant when I said "not wasting your time" was that the teacher will immediately focus on what will make your playing better the most efficiently, i.e. not trying to correct how a student is supporting when they're not even fingering the note correctly! That might be a bit of an extreme example but I think you see what I mean.

I definitely agree with you though, too directive is a big no-no.
