Finally the voice of reason..I agree with Ian, sorry Robin but I do..The case you describe doesn't sound like a case from 1920's which would have almost certainly been leather and not faux leather which would have probably been more expensive than real leather back then. The case sounds more like something from the 60's or 70's with the lining especially feeling later date wise, cases in the 1920's would surely have been lined with velvet, probably mohair velvet, the cases were very much better made than those today and quality was king..just think of quality luggage from the same period, better made, better finish, better overall, even dare I say top quality modern cases from the big firms are a poor cousin to what once was.
I would personally bite the bullet and bin the stinker and find something fresher, nicer and more suitable, gauge what the Oboe is worth to you then budget accordingly.
