I'd like to share a thought about working with other players. Usually, its the second player's responsibility to find a suitable blend with the 1st chair.
And 1st chair can certainly express an opinion about what sound works for the section.
A fairly wide spectrum of sounds can blend effectively, and usually the 2nd, playing lower range finds a slightly livelier reed useful.
A few slow duets ala Telemann's things are really good to get people coming together towards a blended sound.
Also, if possible record the 2 of you at distance to see how the projected sounds are blending. Up close, next to the other player can be very difficult to judge the projected blend which is what the audience hears.
Pitch consistency is another but related issue for the blend of a section... sharpness is a real enemy in that.
