Maybe what I am calling an 'emery' board is not one at all...that's just what we call those nail files in Australia that are thick and have a different grit on either side (not the red-coloured ones) - much more like sand paper than emery (I know exactly what you mean by the colour, J). The students in the studio here use them during their reed making processes, so I guess it can't hurt to use them for adjustments as well. At this stage I have only used the fine grit side, but I am not sure what the exact grit is.
