Any of the French brands of cane are good. There are quite a few options, and I suggest that you try samples of each to see which you like most. However, the quality of the gouging and shaping procedures -usually done to the major brands of cane, by someone in a double-reed shop- ultimately determines the quality of the reed. If the gouge and shape are crap, then it doesn't matter what brand of cane you use...the reed will still be crap!
Speak with a knowledgeable clerk of a double reed accessory store -like specifically double reeds, not like "Joe's music" or whatever- and they should be able to help you select a good brand.
And what works for one person may not work at all for another. The type of cane you use all depends on how you make reeds, the sound you are after, and the shape of your mouth.
Find something that works....and stick to it!
