A few people have said it already but I think the MOST important thing is that they *love* the sound of the instrument. Heck, most of us wouldn't stick with the stupid thing if we didn't have that... I only really discovered the oboe when I was 16, after wasting 8 years on the flute, and I will never forget the first time I properly listened to a recording of it (Vivaldi D minor concerto) - it was truly one of those life-changing moments. It blew me away.

Other than that, I agree with a lot of what has been said above: perfectionist, determined, happy to be a bit different, possibly quiet but still with a musical show-off element.
