Hehe...if you want a whole wealth of embarassing, hilarious oboe stories, get your hands on a book called "Oboists telling tales" by James Brown. It is sooooo funny! Tons of nice little reed, conductor and general disasters and funny stories.
The first one that comes to my mind is that I was playing an arrangment of Beethoven's 7th (1st movement) arranged for wind octet at a concert in Toronto. The opening solo is for the oboe, and goes A5-E5-C#5-F#5-E5 and is nice and expansive and outlines a nice A major chord (the harmony is in the other instruments too I think). Well, at the concert, my wonderful oboe decided that it would stick my C# key closed...so, as I played it, instead of a C# it was a C natural!!! It was one of the most disturbing musical experiences I have ever had. The mistake was so incredibly obvious, and I think it threw every one off...so we restarted, this time with a nice C#!
There is always the water in the A tone hole while giving the tuning A! That's always good and embarassing, and I'm sure it has happened to everyone.
